Exploring Life Cycles
| Our nature project this August day was led by Graham. She discovered small, black objects around the 4 O'Clock bushes we have growing in a row in the back yard, and said "Mommy what's this?" Since she had originally planted these bushes using seed from a packet, I thought it was fitting she harvest the seed from the bushes for next year's planting. 4 O'Clock bushes are vigorous growers that flourish in most soils. They are so named because during late afternoon every day their blooms open to release fragrance. It is a Southern tradition to have 4 O'Clock bush near the front door so that when one returns home after work, he or she can be greeted by a welcoming scent. This year, Graham had so many successful starts that she was able to give 4 O'Clock plants to her Grammy, her Great-Grandma and Daddy's friend Gloria. |
